The 3rd Congress of Asia Pacific Pediatric Cardiology (APPCS) and 2nd Congress of Asia Pacific Society for Adult CHD (APSACHD) were held at Disney resort in Chiba, Japan, from July 6th to 10th, in close conjunction with the 46th Congress of Japanese Society of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery (JSPCCS). We had a total of approximately 1600 attendants from Japan and 400 from more than 25 countries and areas all over the world, and many attendants brought their families.
There were many interesting sessions with exciting discussion. As major sessions, we had 10 symposiums, 19 panel discussions, 16 luncheon seminars and ask-the-expert sessions. Also, we had Joint Sessions among JSPCCS, AEPC (Association of European Society of Pediatric Cardiology) and AHA CVDY. On adult CHD field, we had Joint Session between APSACHD and ISACHD (International Society for Adult CHD). And, we accepted approximately 600 abstract presentations in which 200 were oral presentations. Topics of the major sessions included hybrid approach, cardiopulmonary transplantation, long term problems after TCPC, catheter intervention and electric ablation, pulmonary hypertension, school-based screening on CV disease including metabolic syndrome, imaging, updated CV surgery including strategy for HPLH, arrhythmia and sudden death in postoperative TF, Kawasaki disease, infectious cardiac disease, genetics, perinatal/fetal cardiology, aortopathy, psychosocial issues, and regenerative medicine.
As sessions specific to APPCS, we discussed on the current status and future, and education of pediatric cardiology in Asian Pacific area. And, as APSACHD congress, we had sessions on issue related to the right ventricle, cardiac failure, pregnancy issues, long-term F/U of TGA, and case conference. In addition, we had joint sessions on pulmonary hypertension and pregnancy between AEPC, CVDY of AHA, and Japanese Society (JSPCCS). On adult CHD field, we had joint Session between APSACHD and ISACHD (International Society for Adult CHD).
In this meeting, we organized many sessions of JSPPCS in which presentations were made in English language and we invited papers from APPCS, APSACHD, AEPC, and AHA. By having these sessions, all speakers and attendants felt close each other and were easily able to share the issues discussed at the sessions. Attendants from Asia-Pacific area, Euro and the North America shared the data and information together and had a hot discussion for the future development of this evolving field. Through scientific discussion, personal communication and social events, new friendship between attendants has been made. So, we strongly felt that we made a great step forward for close collaboration between Asia-Pacific area, Euro and the North America. Especially we were happy that young people such as fellows, young physicians, nurses, and technicians recognized this movement. Now it is the moment to nail down this movement and to make further progress of our mutual relationship toward activities such as international collaborative studies and support project. We should work together to keep continuing this trend with thoughtful mind and respect each other, and walk hand in hand for the promising future.
Finally, having had a large number of attendants, many good scientific presentations, hot discussion and friendly personal conversation among the attendants from many countries and areas, we really felt that very intimate friendship and strong support from our colleagues from all over the world. Here we like to express our greatest appreciation to all who supported the congresses.
